Indeed, it is GOD the FATHER’s divine prerogative that He elects people solely out of His grace, plan, and purpose. You are right, Jim, it is clearly, accurately, and amazingly stated in this set of verses. Despite prevalent evil and idolatry pursued by king Ahab and queen Jezebel, GOD kept 7,000 men (probably nth number of women too) that did not worship the national idol, baal. Seven thousand alone is a great number to think of (at that time and population) that did not indulge or not being enticed in the bandwagon of doing the thing detestable to GOD; that is how Sovereign GOD is in ensuring that His elected were not swayed by wickedness. We praise GOD that He is in control of His elect whatever number it is at present time! Blessings to you, Nancy, and your kids!
It is indeed a good Christian song. A good reminder too about pursuing works righteousness and were it leads to. Were it not for GOD’s grace alone indeed!
Indeed, Crissy, these are just three beautiful words but have a larger implication to us humans i.e. the salvation of our souls, having our names in the Book of Life, and worshipping GOD in Heaven forever. This set of verses is a reminder that it is never about our works nor how genuine these works are. It is all by GOD’s grace! His act. His election. To recall our discussion yesterday, verse 5 does indicate that there are remnants of Israel that are chosen by GOD’s grace. We can only know in Heaven how many are GOD’s elect in the present; I pray that there are more than many. Blessings to you, your family, and ministry!
You are right, Dora! What an assurance indeed that GOD have kept/elected/chose for Himself people! No matter how “bad” the world will be or if the Tribulation happens, it is assured that those whom GOD keeps will endure. It is GOD who works and directs these people and shields them from evil. We praise GOD that He chose us by grace to endure! We know where it leads to i.e. Heaven. Blessings to you and your family!
Praise GOD indeed, Dora! Praising the Triune GOD that we have “hunger” for Him, that it is through GOD the FATHER’s grace alone that we are saved/elected and humbly accept it by faith alone, that we accept/confess/proclaim JESUS CHRIST as the Lord GOD of our life and the only Savior of our souls, and that we strive for sanctification/holiness. These are the indications that GOD elects us. We are grateful to our GOD! Let us continue pursuing Him through His Word and a sanctified life.
Love it: Chosen by grace. Stated so clearly. Stated so accurately. Stated amazingly.

Yes, because we cannot and based on a song, “forever running but losing the race, were it not for grace.”

“I have kept for myself . . . .” What a heavenly assurance in those words themselves!
