There is a lovely 96 years old woman from our church whom I call several times a week to be her eyes and read a portion of the Bible to her. We just read this portion of Matthew. This image truly drives home the closing verses of this parable.
You really have a kind and wonderful heart, Beth! Not only she (and probably those who care for her) is happy for what you are doing but you will surmised that GOD is also. There is a smile in Heaven. You are right, it does show the purpose of letting the weeds grow than an outright cutting/stopping it. Maybe its interaction with the wheat, makes the wheat flourish or with sharing the same environment with them makes us have a stronger faith in GOD? We can only surmised. Two things for sure are, 1) only GOD knows who are the wheat and weeds, and 2) this is all for His purpose and glory alone. There is a chance that the easy looking weed is a wheat all along. Blessings to you and your family!
Thank you Gersom. Any goodness in me is truly a reflection of Jesus. I’m incredibly blessed by all I have learned from chatting with this Godly woman, and reading the Word aloud to her is edifying to both our hearts. I greatly appreciate your reflections on this parable as they prompt me to chew on it even more. Have a lovely weekend!
That is a great story, Beth of Christians edifying/nurturing each other with GOD’s Word; all possible by the grace of GOD. A commendable trait too! You too, a blessed weekend!
This is a powerful image. Being burned alive is horrific. Pain, pain and more pain. While I am thankful that we won’t perish in flames, is so vital to pray for our unsaved loved ones. Love and blessings brother.
Yes, Mandy, it is a spoilery and mild picture of what might be expected in hell. Chances are, it is very gruesomely horrifying and eternity tormenting place where the judged “weeds” go and share the same “pain” with the devil and demons. They won’t be playing poker with their favorite alcoholic drink complete with a butler there like a haven for criminals or “gangsters paradise” rather, it is torture all day and night. Comparing a human life span of mundane pleasure with eternity in that place…well, we will repent all our sins, change ways, seek the Triune GOD, and acknowledge/follow JESUS CHRIST as the Lord GOD of our lives and Savior of our souls. These verses shows how PRECIOUS and “really” saving GOD’s Sovereign Grace is i.e. escaping His judicial wrath for sinners like you and me! I’m still praying every night for those loved ones of friends who need to be called. We don’t know who are really saved and that a weed in a human eye’s perspective is a wheat in GOD’s divine eyes. Blessings to you, Nathan, your parents, and your brother!
So, so, so true about not playing poker in hell! I remember the first time I saw that and I shook my head, like no! This may make me a legalistic to some but I remember when FOX first announced it was going to air “Lucifer” I was really upset that once again people will be lulled at the reality of hell. Thank you for your faithful prayers and ministry to the lost!
Cheating will be rampant if there is poker in hell. Although it is one of the DC shows, I don’t watch that series. Legends of Tomorrow has scenes in hell, which were more of gangsters/bad guys’ haven. We have to continue praying.
As Christians we read these passages and shudder. Not because that will be our end. But because we know that the unbelieving, the rejectors of the gospel will end up in such a place. It grieves me how so many these days laugh at the idea and make fun of it.
For the unbelievers and those who are elected whom GOD has not called yet, it is hard to fathom hell as a miserable place. There are shows that portrayed it as more of a gangsters paradise. Because that is the case, the more we should share the Gospel of grace and show what is it like to go to a place where suffering and physical pain is constant daily for eternity.

Yes, that is an unfortunate fate for those who don’t have faith in the Triune GOD. Blessings to you and your family!
