That is the same example that JESUS CHRIST has pointed out about 2000 years ago, Mandy. Accumulation of wealth, property, and things is “hevel, hevel, and hevel” (vapor/enigma) as the “teacher” of Ecclesiastes stressed out and relevant to JESUS’ Parable of the Rich Fool. Blessings to you and your family!
The word means vapor or steam or foolishness or even enigma. Some Theologians, John Piper included, prefer that meaning and not the word, “meaningless.” So, without trusting JESUS in once life would find life as vainglory, fleeting, and mysterious.
What a false sense of security the world has! Everyone chasing financial security, but enough is never enough. Manna given daily in the wilderness is not enough. There has to be so much that it covers many thousands of tomorrow. But what price our soul when it is demanded of us today? There isn’t a vault strong enough to keep it from the wrath of God.
Grace and peace to you, Kent —

Dora, you are definitely right that what we have in this world is a false sense of security and only GOD can give a real and everlasting one! It is so temporal that we need more to insure that we are secured in the finite time we all are living. I agree with you it is “never enough” (taking cue on that high pitch song). True, the Manna was the daily sustenance that GOD faithfully give and yet the Israelites (at that time) still accumulated as reserve that got spoiled the next day. Indeed, they are not trusting GOD in His Divine providence, something that the rich fool of this parable can be described having wealth that “covers many thousands of tomorrow.” The Book of Ecclesiastes, which is the primary series, boils down to trusting GOD by faith. Yes, the soul is very expensive that it took the SON of GOD i.e. JESUS CHRIST as the ransom; we cannot afford it even if we have “towers of gold” and “all the stars of the night sky” (again, taking cue of Never Enough song) This Parable connects to that strong passage/verse and, had I not posted it on Feb. 14, 2021, it could have been included in this sets of series. True, no super thick vault can be strong enough for natural and man-made hazards, according to His will. We leave/surrender our security to JESUS CHRIST, our Lord GOD and Savior. Blessings to you and your family!
You are right, it is important to think ahead for eternity. But some best planners missed that too. Also, some just like/prefer how things are going. The best thing is to be grateful to GOD and acknowledge Him for His insights, provisions, and above all salvation. Conveying my blessings in your post later.
Building more barns, building bigger barns is the moto of today’s current culture. Consumerism is one of the gods of this age.

This makes me think of how important it is to think ahead…including with eternity
