I see Paul as eager to impress on Timothy the grace of repentance that may be given to anyone, thus to be slow to write off anyone, given his own past experience persecuting God’s people.
Great point! This adds to the idea that GOD uses even our experiences, good, bad or ugly it may be, all for His purpose, plan, will, and glory! To emphasize, Paul’s “persecuting past” was useful by giving him the context in writing on repentance (along with other edifying topics/doctrines) for Timothy, believers, and for the churches; of course, this was inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT. He saw what the Triune GOD can do to him and knows that He does change even the foremost of sinners. Blessings to you and your family DHak!
